Holidays on the Plan de Corones: hiking routes & much more

From pebbles to mountain peaks

Enjoy town life today, go out on the ski slopes tomorrow, and explore the mountains the day after.
It’s wonderful to have a choice and to spend your holiday in a place that offers so much variety. In other words, people who come and stay by the Plan de Corones always return.

The Plan de Corones

… also known as South Tyrol’s No. 1 ski area. Cycling and hiking area. Culture, entertainment and good food.

Ski

119 km of slopes, 32 ultra-modern ski lifts, 5 black runs (the “Black Five”) and a trail linking up with the Sellaronda, the world’s most famous ski tour – need we say more? The best thing to do is to pack your case (including your skis) and come and explore South Tyrol’s No. 1 ski mountain. P.S.: you can keep your skis in our lockable ski store with boot dryer.

Skiing

Bikes

even the weary will soon wake up on these downhill and freeride trails. There are 16 of them on the Plan de Corones, all with famous names: Franz, Hans, Andreas and Alex are just some of the legendary trails at our local bike park. Of course, there are other mountain bike trails on Plan de Corones, scenic circuits with a distinctive alpine character. P.S.: we provide a bike store in our complex, with a charging station for e-bikes.

Cross-country skiing

For both classic and skating style, the cross-country trails in Riscone, Val di Rudo, Falzes and Issengo are a cross-country skiers’ paradise. A tip: do you fancy a bit of biathlon? Then follow in the footsteps of some famous cross-country skiers and biathletes and enjoy yourself at the biathlon and cross-country skiing centre.

Hikes

You can go up Brunico’s local mountain not just by ski lift, but also on foot. When you get to the top, you can go on another hike. Would you rather start with the Concordia guided trail, or the route towards the Furcia Pass?

Culture

Interactive, exciting, and definitely not prosaic or boring. What are we describing? Your future visit to Plan de Corones. Two of these have reached the heights and been fully adapted to the mountains: we’re talking about the Messner Mountain Museum (MMM) Corones, one of the museums founded by the famous extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner, and also the LUMEN museum of mountain photography.

Culture

Food hotspot

Of course, you haven’t really been to Brunico unless you’ve tasted the local cuisine. The many alpine huts on the Plan de Corones will delight your palate with their tasty dishes and delicious treats. If you are looking for something different, you’ll find it at the ALPINN Food Space & Restaurant, a whole new approach to the world of food.

Fun

Would you like to experience a real adrenaline rush? Then you should definitely try the Skyscraper. You’ll be lifted 15 m off the ground with a winch and then catapulted into the air. A giant swing that certainly requires strong nerves!

Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park

… also known for its beautiful alpine lakes. A place full of surprises. A UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.

Lake Braies

Is probably the most photographed lake in South Tyrol. But no wonder, because there’s something special about this crystal clear lake with its blue and emerald green water, set in a fabulous mountain landscape. Lake Braies is not simply a popular attraction, but also a place that draws people back. And not just in summer. Our tip: hire a rowing boat or hike around the lake, and in winter go and see the thick layer of ice that covers Lake Braies.

Prato Piazza

When you reach Prato Piazza, you suddenly enter a different world. Up at a height of 2,000 metres, you can see towards the far horizon. A visit to this plateau is almost like a stay in a wellness centre. Mountains, woods and the wonders of nature have always been the best cure for every ill. You can enjoy this natural environment both in summer and in winter, with splendid hikes, mountaineering trips (e.g. on Monte Specie or the Picco di Vallandro), cross-country skiing excursions and snowshoe hikes.

Malga Fanes

It is said that those who go to the Val Badia – the land of legends – should not be surprised if they encounter giants, wizards and other mythical creatures. Even though the era of the legendary Kingdom of Fanes is past, the area still retains its magical atmosphere. You can visit Malga Fanes and Malga Senes in both summer and winter, starting from San Vigilio di Marebbe.

The 3 Peaks Dolomites holiday region

… also known as the gateway to the most famous peaks

Tre Cime

A hike around the Tre Cime is more enjoyable when it’s not too crowded. So choose a day during the low season (early May to June, or September to October) for this classic hike in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. If you want to admire this mysterious rock structure from a distance, you can do so from various vantage points: from the Tre Cime viewing platform (on the main road between Dobbiaco and Cortina), from the Picco di Vallandro (2,839 m), from Mount Specie (2,307 m), and so on.

Cinque Torri

Hiking, climbing or skiing – the “Cinque Torri” in the Belluno Dolomites, between Cortina d’Ampezzo and the Falzarego Pass, are an amazing natural spectacle. The hike around the Cinque Torri is particularly popular with families and can be combined with a ride in a chairlift.
